The Longwalls' Careers in Science album has also landed on a few of best of 2011 lists by the fine folks at The Noise, Twangville, and Beat the Indie Drum! Thanks to all! Was a good year in SMR land. On to the next.
The Longwalls
americana popsmiths from Boston
A perfect blend of Americana and catchy-as-heck pop.
- Band in Boston
Our Americana is one that can look one direction and see America, yet look the other direction and see the wild expanses of the untamed ocean. The Longwalls have captured this essence.

The fine folks over at Culture Bomb have some very nice things to say about The Longwalls' Careers in Science Album! Lines like "clash-like rhythms mixed with an Elvis Costello, jangling guitar" make us positively giddy. And we like gumbo. And, we like that we left them wanting more...
The Longwalls' album "Careers in Science" is hanging around the Noise local radio chart. The album has been on the charts since April is hanging in there at #15 for August. Big thanks to all the local DJs!
About The Longwalls
Alan Wuorinen – vox, acoustic guitar, pedal steel, things w/ keys
Dan London – bass, vox
Kurt von Stetten – drums, percussion, noise cello, things w/ keys
Brandon Comstock – guitars, vox, miscellany
Mining indie rock, Americana, and the worst of basic cable, The Longwalls make American pop music. Featuring ex-Gatsby heroes Alan Wuorinen and Brandon Comstock with Dan London and DIY wunderkind Kurt von Stetten on drums, The Longwalls stalk a line from classic indie rock to big-twang Americana—exploring ideas and ideals from pop and pulp alike.
The band’s 2008 home-brewed debut, Field Guide for the Zombie Survivalist, features the much-beloved track (and video) Zombies! 2010’s Dark Academy EP was called “a future classic” by the Noise. 2011's Careers in Science—the band's pulpy run at sci-fi triumph and failure—was called "a start-to-finish power-pop gem."
They've played all over Boston with the likes of Sodafrog, The Great Bandini, Cassavettes, McAlister Drive, The O's and a whole lot more.
